20th Anniversary! and Happy Easter!!

Happy Anniversary to me! I was diagnosed 20 years ago today with diabetes, and I have to say, I've come a long way, and I'm glad I have been able to do all I've done since being diagnosed. I remember the doctors saying, "Don't let diabetes stop you from doing the things you really want to do." I'm so grateful for that advice.

To celebrate today, I did lots of fun things! (Okay, I was just enjoying another off-track day that turned out to be a pretty awesome day-- so I'll say that I celebrated!) I ran outside in gorgeous weather, played with my nieces and nephews, went to the zoo with them and my bro and mom. Then I went for a pedicure with my mom-- my 2nd ever, and loved it! I also hung out with my great friend of 20+ years! And to end, I am now eating ice cream. Oh, sugar free, of course!

Looking back, I think that diabetes was a good thing for me to have to prepare for the brain tumor we discovered six months ago. I don't want things to stop me from living life to the fullest! I didn't know when I was diagnosed at 12 that I would be able to one day: go on a mission, travel, run 1/2 marathons, teach school, and be so grateful for my trials! They have taught me so much.

Yesterday my mom and dad joked that when I broke my leg at age six, they thought maybe I was one of those people getting my challenges over with early in life. What good sports they have been to help me through one unique challenge after another. But we have learned through them all!

Yesterday was a beautiful Easter, and being asked to speak in sacrament meeting, I did a lot of reading and studying during the week to be prepared. I'm so grateful for all that I learned. Wow, what beautiful truths in the scriptures, Talmage's Jesus the Christ, Callister's Infinite Atonement, and general conference talks. I know that I would have not been able to endure life's trials without the atonement of Jesus Christ. I know that He understands every pain and heartache, and that He is the master healer. I know that faith in His power brings patience. I know that diligent prayers of faith work miracles, and that we can come to know our Savior more fully through our trials. I am so grateful that Christ gained the victory over death, and to know that we are eternal beings. I look forward to enjoying the same sociality with awesome friends and family in the next life that I enjoy in this life-- but it will be even better! (see Doctrine and Covenants 130:2)

My vision isn't as great as it was before this brain tumor. But I feel I have a clearer vision and understanding of the Savior and His gospel and my mission and purpose on earth. The things we see with our hearts are more important than the things we see with our eyes!!

Enjoying "Music and the Spoken Word" with my mom and aunt downtown!

The Carl Bloch display at BYU is incredible! "Touch our eyes that we may see..."

I enjoyed the Carl Bloch display this time with my mom, sister, and niece!

I love these ladies! With student teacher Linzi and co-worker Staci! My students and all their parents are awesome too!
